At Blue Sky Psychiatry, we offer couples therapy in El Cerrito designed to help partners reconnect, communicate more effectively, and move forward with clarity and confidence.

Our approach combines evidence-based therapy with genuine compassion. We don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach—every couple has a unique history, dynamic, and set of challenges. Through structured sessions, we help you identify patterns that are keeping you stuck, understand the emotional needs beneath conflict, and build healthier ways of relating to one another.
Whether you’re navigating ongoing disagreements, recovering from a breach of trust, adjusting to a major life transition, or simply feeling emotionally distant, therapy provides a space to slow things down and truly hear each other. With guidance from experienced clinicians, you can begin to shift from reactive cycles to thoughtful, intentional communication.

Couples in El Cerrito choose Blue Sky Psychiatry because we offer more than just talk therapy—we provide structured, results-oriented care grounded in clinical expertise and real-world experience. Our goal is not only to help you feel better in the moment, but to equip you with the insight and tools needed for lasting change.
Evidence-Based Care
We use proven therapeutic approaches rooted in psychology research to address communication breakdowns, recurring conflict patterns, and emotional disconnection. Sessions are intentional and goal-oriented, helping you move beyond surface-level conversations and into meaningful progress.
Experienced, Collaborative Team
Our providers—including a psychologist, psychiatrist, and psychiatric physician assistant—bring diverse clinical perspectives to your care. When needed, we collaborate to address both relational dynamics and underlying mental health factors, ensuring a more complete and effective treatment approach.
Personalized Treatment Plans
No two relationships are alike. We take the time to understand your history, communication style, stressors, and goals as a couple. From there, we create a tailored plan that meets you where you are and evolves as your relationship grows.
Support for Complex Relationships
We have extensive experience working with interfaith, intercultural, and interracial couples. Differences in background, values, and expectations can add complexity to relationships—but with the right guidance, they can also become strengths. We help partners navigate these dynamics with respect, clarity, and mutual understanding.
Flexible Access
Consistency is key in therapy. We offer secure telehealth sessions as well as in-person care in the East Bay, making it easier to prioritize your relationship even with a busy schedule.
Our couples therapy services are designed to meet you where you are—whether you’re facing a specific challenge or simply want to strengthen your relationship over time. We focus on both immediate concerns and long-term growth, helping you build a more stable and fulfilling partnership.
Communication Skills Development
Clear, respectful communication is the foundation of any strong relationship. We help you learn how to express your needs without escalation, listen with intention, and respond in ways that build understanding rather than conflict.
Conflict Resolution
Every couple argues—but unresolved patterns can create ongoing tension. We help you identify triggers, understand the deeper issues behind disagreements, and develop healthier, more productive ways to work through conflict.
Trust Rebuilding
Rebuilding trust after betrayal or emotional distance takes time and structure. We guide couples through this process step by step, creating a space for accountability, healing, and renewed connection.
Intimacy and Connection
Emotional and physical intimacy often decline when communication breaks down. Therapy helps restore closeness by addressing underlying barriers and creating opportunities for reconnection.
Life Transitions Support
Major life changes—such as becoming parents, career shifts, relocation, or caregiving responsibilities—can put strain on a relationship. We help couples navigate these transitions as a team, maintaining alignment and support.
Integrated Mental Health Care
When individual mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, or stress are impacting the relationship, we can incorporate psychiatric insight and medication management into your care. This integrated approach ensures both partners receive the support they need.

We proudly support couples throughout El Cerrito and nearby East Bay communities. Our familiarity with the local area allows us to understand the pace, pressures, and diversity of relationships here—so care feels relevant, practical, and grounded in real life.

Dr Mindy I have known for over a decade and her continuous care and professionalism is outstanding. Many times I came to see her feeling like I am at the end of my rope and she ALWAYS has an answer of how we can make things work with a different medication, a different solution and never gives up. I owe her so much for without these medications and her confidence and care I wouldn't be able to function and I am functioning very well now. Even though she moved out of town I still see her through Telehealth as she truly is the BEST!
Dr Mindy was a life saver for my son and our family. She was so attentive and compaSsionate. I felt like she put her heart and sole into treating my son. She is so up to date on the newest medications and techniques in psychiatry. She carefully listens and gained my sons trust and ours. I have sent several other friends and family members to her and they all had the same experience. A++++
Dr. Mindy Werner-Crohn was a lifesaver. Not only is she most knowledgeable about the latest advances in psychopharmaceuticals and medical advances in psychiatry and psychology, she is also up to date on other treatments to help in a variety of situations. I found her honest, straightforward, and accessible as well as very friendly and helpful. She even went to bat for me when I had an issue with my insurance company. Her staff is professional and goes above and beyond what would be required to make any patient feel welcomed and well taken care of. I cannot recommend Dr. Werner-Crohn highly enough!
Dr. Mindy has been tremendously helpful to our son first, and then to me, as I became a patient as well. Yes, she is expensive, but there are few things that are worth more than getting the best advice you can from an expert in the mental health field who is truly brilliant in so many ways. After seeing other psychiatrists, and getting a variety of diagnoses and mediocre advice, Dr. Mindy was able to very quickly help our son by seeing what his issues were and getting him on the proper medication which has actually helped him to feel better and function better in school and in general. She cares about her patients, listens to them, and advises them not only on mental health but also has given us advice about other areas such as when and where to get tutoring help and deciding when he is ready for independence like staying home alone and going to summer camp. She has even given us referrals regarding concerns about his nutrition and growth. If you are trying to navigate any mental health issues and getting overwhelmed by a lot of questionable advice, I highly recommend you go to see Dr. Mindy!
Dr Mindy Warner Crohn is the most magnificent, spectacular, caring psychiatrist I have ever had the pleasure to work with. 10 years ago I was diagnosed bipolar. I will now be 63 this Saturday. It's been a 10 years of up-and-down of different medications and therapy. She never gave up. She was always my cheerleader. She is brilliant. She now practices up in Oakland, but I have worked with her for the last 7 years or so,since Covid via Zoom. I could have my dates askew; but the important thing is I am doing well and I owe it all to her. In addition, she set me up with a wonderful therapist Dr. Tracy Rosberg. Together they have really helped turn my life around. God bless them both.
I am a client of Shira Crohn's and l can't recommend her enough! She is a thoughtful, compassionate and highly skilled practitioner. I have benefitted enormously from her guidance and care. If you want someone who will engage you and guide you in your journey, then Shira will partner with you to do just that.
Shira is the best psychiatrist I've ever worked with. She is empathetic and kind, but not a dunce or a pushover either. We've talked about various aspects of my treatment, and she has worked with me to find the right combination that works (which we did!) She's just good people, not there to cram as many appointments in as possible, just to run off to golf or something. I couldn't recommend her more highly.

Couples therapy is a structured, collaborative process where you and your partner meet with a trained clinician to better understand your relationship and improve how you interact. Sessions focus on identifying patterns—such as recurring arguments, withdrawal, or miscommunication—and exploring the underlying emotions and needs driving those patterns. Your therapist helps facilitate productive conversations, ensures both partners feel heard, and introduces practical tools to improve communication, rebuild trust, and strengthen your connection over time.
Couples therapy can support a wide range of relationship challenges, including communication breakdowns, frequent conflict, emotional disconnection, and intimacy concerns. It is also effective for addressing trust issues such as infidelity, navigating parenting differences, and managing stress related to work or life transitions. Additionally, therapy can help couples work through cultural, religious, or family differences, as well as the impact of anxiety, depression, or other mental health concerns on the relationship.
A typical session provides a safe, structured environment where both partners can speak openly without interruption or escalation. Your therapist will guide the conversation to help clarify concerns, identify patterns, and explore emotional responses. Over time, sessions become more skill-focused—teaching techniques for communication, conflict resolution, and emotional regulation. You may also be given exercises or strategies to practice between sessions, helping you apply what you’ve learned in real-life situations.
Yes, couples therapy is confidential and conducted with a high level of professionalism and privacy. Everything discussed in sessions is protected, with a few standard legal exceptions (such as risk of harm to self or others). At the beginning of therapy, your provider will clearly explain confidentiality policies so both partners feel informed and comfortable engaging openly in the process.
Yes, we offer both secure telehealth sessions and in-person appointments in the East Bay. Telehealth provides flexibility for busy schedules, commuting challenges, or partners in different locations, while in-person sessions offer a more traditional face-to-face experience. Both formats are designed to be equally effective, allowing you to choose the option that best fits your needs and lifestyle.
No. While therapy can be incredibly helpful during times of crisis, many couples seek support before issues become overwhelming. Couples therapy is also valuable for strengthening communication, deepening emotional connection, and preparing for major life transitions such as marriage, parenting, or relocation. Taking a proactive approach can help prevent small issues from becoming larger problems.
Therapy improves communication by helping partners slow down conversations, reduce reactivity, and better understand each other’s perspectives. You’ll learn structured techniques such as active listening, reflecting, and expressing needs clearly without blame or criticism. Over time, these skills help reduce defensiveness, increase empathy, and create more productive, respectful conversations—even during disagreements.
Couples therapy is beneficial for partners at any stage of a relationship—whether you’re dating, engaged, married, or in a long-term partnership. It is also helpful for couples from diverse backgrounds, including interfaith, intercultural, or interracial relationships. Whether you’re facing a specific challenge or simply want to strengthen your connection, therapy provides tools and insight that support long-term relationship health.
Yes, most couples therapy is guided by clear, shared goals. Early sessions often focus on identifying what each partner hopes to achieve—such as improving communication, resolving specific conflicts, or rebuilding trust. At the same time, therapy allows space for open exploration, helping uncover deeper patterns or concerns that may not be immediately obvious. This balance ensures that sessions are both focused and meaningful.
Getting started is simple. The first step is reaching out to schedule an initial consultation, where we’ll learn more about your relationship, your concerns, and your goals. From there, we’ll match you with the right provider and begin building a personalized treatment plan.
