Relationships are at the center of our lives. When they’re working well, they provide stability, connection, and meaning. When they’re strained, they can become a source of stress, confusion, and emotional pain. At Blue Sky Psychiatry, we offer couples therapy in Alameda, CA, designed to help you and your partner reconnect, communicate more effectively, and move forward with clarity and purpose.
Our approach is grounded in evidence-based psychotherapy and guided by decades of clinical experience. Whether you’re facing ongoing conflict, navigating a life transition, or trying to rebuild trust, couples therapy provides a structured, supportive environment to better understand one another and work toward meaningful change. We don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach—every relationship is different, and your care plan reflects your unique dynamics, goals, and challenges.

Couples therapy at Blue Sky Psychiatry is led by an experienced clinical psychologist with extensive training in relationship dynamics, including the Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy (PACT). This approach focuses on how partners relate emotionally and physiologically, helping couples build secure, resilient bonds. Sessions are collaborative, practical, and focused on real-world change—not just insight, but action.
We also understand that mental health and relationships are often closely connected. When appropriate, our team can integrate psychiatric expertise into your care, including medication management for conditions like anxiety, depression, or ADHD that may be affecting your relationship. This coordinated, whole-person approach allows us to address both individual and relational factors—leading to more effective, lasting outcomes.
For your convenience, we offer both secure telehealth sessions throughout California and in-person appointments in Oakland, making high-quality care accessible and flexible.
If you’re ready to take the next step, we’re here to help.

Psychiatric Medication Management and Therapy in California
If you’re searching for couples therapy in Alameda, you’re likely dealing with something important—something that hasn’t resolved on its own. Maybe communication has broken down. These challenges are more common than you might think—and they are treatable with the right support.

This level of experience allows us to quickly identify patterns, clarify underlying issues, and guide couples toward effective solutions.

1. If your relationship feels strained, taking action early can make a significant difference. Small issues can grow over time if left unaddressed, but with intention and effort, many challenges can be worked through. Here are a few practical steps to consider:
2. Acknowledge the Issue
Avoiding problems often makes them worse. Recognizing that something needs to change is the first step toward improvement. Be honest with yourself about what isn’t working, and accept that both partners may play a role in the current dynamic.
3. Open a Calm Conversation
Choose a time to talk when both partners are not overwhelmed or distracted. Approach the discussion with curiosity rather than defensiveness. Focus on listening and understanding each other’s perspectives instead of trying to “win” the conversation.
4. Identify Patterns
Notice recurring conflicts or behaviors that don’t resolve. These patterns often point to deeper issues such as unmet needs, communication gaps, or unresolved past experiences. Understanding these cycles can help you break them.
5. Seek Professional Support
Couples therapy provides structure, guidance, and tools that are difficult to develop on your own. A trained professional can help both partners communicate more effectively, navigate conflict, and rebuild connection in a supportive environment.
6. Commit to the Process
Change takes time and consistent effort from both partners. Progress may feel slow at times, but staying committed can lead to meaningful, lasting improvements in trust, communication, and emotional closeness.
Dr Mindy I have known for over a decade and her continuous care and professionalism is outstanding. Many times I came to see her feeling like I am at the end of my rope and she ALWAYS has an answer of how we can make things work with a different medication, a different solution and never gives up. I owe her so much for without these medications and her confidence and care I wouldn't be able to function and I am functioning very well now. Even though she moved out of town I still see her through Telehealth as she truly is the BEST!
Dr Mindy was a life saver for my son and our family. She was so attentive and compaSsionate. I felt like she put her heart and sole into treating my son. She is so up to date on the newest medications and techniques in psychiatry. She carefully listens and gained my sons trust and ours. I have sent several other friends and family members to her and they all had the same experience. A++++
Dr. Mindy Werner-Crohn was a lifesaver. Not only is she most knowledgeable about the latest advances in psychopharmaceuticals and medical advances in psychiatry and psychology, she is also up to date on other treatments to help in a variety of situations. I found her honest, straightforward, and accessible as well as very friendly and helpful. She even went to bat for me when I had an issue with my insurance company. Her staff is professional and goes above and beyond what would be required to make any patient feel welcomed and well taken care of. I cannot recommend Dr. Werner-Crohn highly enough!
Dr. Mindy has been tremendously helpful to our son first, and then to me, as I became a patient as well. Yes, she is expensive, but there are few things that are worth more than getting the best advice you can from an expert in the mental health field who is truly brilliant in so many ways. After seeing other psychiatrists, and getting a variety of diagnoses and mediocre advice, Dr. Mindy was able to very quickly help our son by seeing what his issues were and getting him on the proper medication which has actually helped him to feel better and function better in school and in general. She cares about her patients, listens to them, and advises them not only on mental health but also has given us advice about other areas such as when and where to get tutoring help and deciding when he is ready for independence like staying home alone and going to summer camp. She has even given us referrals regarding concerns about his nutrition and growth. If you are trying to navigate any mental health issues and getting overwhelmed by a lot of questionable advice, I highly recommend you go to see Dr. Mindy!
Dr Mindy Warner Crohn is the most magnificent, spectacular, caring psychiatrist I have ever had the pleasure to work with. 10 years ago I was diagnosed bipolar. I will now be 63 this Saturday. It's been a 10 years of up-and-down of different medications and therapy. She never gave up. She was always my cheerleader. She is brilliant. She now practices up in Oakland, but I have worked with her for the last 7 years or so,since Covid via Zoom. I could have my dates askew; but the important thing is I am doing well and I owe it all to her. In addition, she set me up with a wonderful therapist Dr. Tracy Rosberg. Together they have really helped turn my life around. God bless them both.
I am a client of Shira Crohn's and l can't recommend her enough! She is a thoughtful, compassionate and highly skilled practitioner. I have benefitted enormously from her guidance and care. If you want someone who will engage you and guide you in your journey, then Shira will partner with you to do just that.
Shira is the best psychiatrist I've ever worked with. She is empathetic and kind, but not a dunce or a pushover either. We've talked about various aspects of my treatment, and she has worked with me to find the right combination that works (which we did!) She's just good people, not there to cram as many appointments in as possible, just to run off to golf or something. I couldn't recommend her more highly.
If you’re experiencing ongoing conflict, communication breakdowns, emotional distance, or repeated patterns you can’t resolve on your own, couples therapy can help. It provides a structured, supportive space to understand each other better, address underlying issues, and develop healthier ways of relating and communicating moving forward together.
In most cases, yes. Couples therapy is most effective when both partners actively participate and engage in the process. However, there may be times when individual sessions are recommended to explore personal concerns. Consistent joint attendance helps build accountability, shared understanding, and meaningful progress in the relationship.
The length of therapy varies based on your goals, the complexity of challenges, and your commitment to the process. Some couples notice improvements within a few months, while others benefit from longer-term work. Progress depends on consistency, openness, and willingness to apply new skills outside of sessions.
Yes, we offer secure telehealth sessions for couples throughout California. Virtual therapy provides flexibility and convenience while maintaining the same level of professional care. It’s a great option for busy schedules, long-distance partners, or those who prefer attending sessions from the comfort and privacy of their home.
It’s very common for one partner to feel unsure about starting therapy. Open, respectful conversations about expectations and goals can help ease concerns. Emphasizing that therapy is a supportive, non-judgmental space—not about blame—often helps reluctant partners feel more comfortable giving the process a chance.
Yes, couples therapy can support healing after infidelity through a structured, evidence-based approach. It focuses on rebuilding trust, improving communication, and addressing underlying issues. While the process can be challenging, many couples find that therapy helps them move forward with greater clarity, accountability, and emotional connection.
No. A couple’s therapist remains neutral and does not take sides. Their role is to support both partners equally, helping each person feel heard and understood. The goal is to improve the relationship dynamic, not assign blame, by fostering empathy, communication skills, and collaborative problem-solving.
Absolutely. Conditions such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, and trauma can significantly impact communication, emotional regulation, and connection. Couples therapy can help partners understand how these factors influence the relationship and develop strategies to support each other while improving overall relational and individual well-being.
