Families experience periods of stress, change, conflict, and emotional strain throughout life. Whether your family is dealing with communication problems, parenting challenges, divorce, grief, mental health concerns, or major life transitions, professional family therapy can help restore balance and improve relationships.
At Blue Sky Psychiatry, we provide compassionate, evidence-based family therapy in Berkeley, CA designed to help families strengthen communication, rebuild trust, and navigate challenges together in healthier ways. Our therapists work collaboratively with families to identify patterns, address conflict, and create practical solutions that support long-term emotional well-being.
Family struggles often affect everyone in the household, even when difficulties seem centered around one individual. Anxiety, depression, ADHD, behavioral concerns, substance abuse, trauma, and emotional regulation issues can impact parents, children, siblings, and extended family members alike. Life transitions such as marriage, divorce, relocation, illness, career stress, or the birth of a child can also create tension and emotional disconnection within the family system.
Through family counseling, families gain a supportive space where every member has the opportunity to be heard. Sessions focus on improving communication, clarifying expectations, understanding emotional responses, and developing healthier ways to cope with stress and change.
At Blue Sky Psychiatry, we understand that every family is unique. Our approach is personalized, supportive, and practical. We focus on helping families make meaningful progress while building stronger emotional connections that last beyond therapy sessions.

We provide virtual therapy throughout California and offer convenient in-person sessions for families seeking personalized support. Our flexible therapy options make it easier for busy families to access consistent care that fits their schedules and needs.

Family challenges rarely improve without support, especially when stress, conflict, or emotional distance has become part of everyday life. Many families wait until problems feel overwhelming before seeking therapy, but counseling can be most effective when concerns are addressed early.
At Blue Sky Psychiatry, we help families in Berkeley improve communication, resolve conflict, and strengthen relationships before issues become more deeply rooted. Whether your family is struggling with a recent transition or long-standing tension, therapy can provide the guidance and structure needed to move forward together.
Families seek counseling for many different reasons. Some parents are concerned about a child’s emotional or behavioral struggles. Others feel disconnected due to stress, unresolved conflict, or communication breakdowns. Many families are adjusting to divorce, remarriage, relocation, illness, grief, or changing family roles.
Family therapy creates a safe and structured environment where these challenges can be explored openly and productively.
One of the most common reasons families seek therapy is difficulty communicating effectively. Family members may feel misunderstood, dismissed, criticized, or emotionally disconnected. Over time, communication patterns can become reactive and unhealthy.
Therapy helps families learn healthier ways to express emotions, listen actively, and respond constructively. Sessions encourage respectful dialogue and help family members better understand each other’s perspectives.
Stress and unresolved conflict can weaken relationships over time. Family counseling helps rebuild trust, increase empathy, and improve emotional connection among family members. Our therapists guide families toward healthier interactions that support stronger, more stable relationships.
Transitions often create emotional strain within families. Divorce, remarriage, career changes, illness, loss, moving to a new city, or welcoming a new child can all shift family dynamics significantly.
Family therapy helps individuals adjust to these changes while maintaining healthy communication and emotional stability throughout the process.
Mental health conditions can affect the entire family system. Anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, mood disorders, autism spectrum disorders, and behavioral challenges often create stress within relationships and daily routines.
At Blue Sky Psychiatry, we help families better understand these conditions while developing practical strategies for support, communication, and emotional regulation at home.
Conflict often develops when family roles, boundaries, or expectations become unclear. Therapy helps families identify unhealthy patterns, improve accountability, and establish more balanced relationships within the household.
Our approach focuses on lasting progress rather than temporary fixes. Families learn practical tools they can continue using outside therapy sessions to reduce future conflict and maintain healthier communication over time.
Families throughout Berkeley trust Blue Sky Psychiatry because we provide thoughtful, individualized care rooted in evidence-based therapeutic approaches. We understand the emotional, cultural, and generational influences that shape family relationships, and we tailor treatment to meet the unique needs of every family we work with.
If your family is struggling with conflict, emotional stress, parenting challenges, or difficult life transitions, professional support can help create meaningful change.

Dr Mindy I have known for over a decade and her continuous care and professionalism is outstanding. Many times I came to see her feeling like I am at the end of my rope and she ALWAYS has an answer of how we can make things work with a different medication, a different solution and never gives up. I owe her so much for without these medications and her confidence and care I wouldn't be able to function and I am functioning very well now. Even though she moved out of town I still see her through Telehealth as she truly is the BEST!
Dr Mindy was a life saver for my son and our family. She was so attentive and compaSsionate. I felt like she put her heart and sole into treating my son. She is so up to date on the newest medications and techniques in psychiatry. She carefully listens and gained my sons trust and ours. I have sent several other friends and family members to her and they all had the same experience. A++++
Dr. Mindy Werner-Crohn was a lifesaver. Not only is she most knowledgeable about the latest advances in psychopharmaceuticals and medical advances in psychiatry and psychology, she is also up to date on other treatments to help in a variety of situations. I found her honest, straightforward, and accessible as well as very friendly and helpful. She even went to bat for me when I had an issue with my insurance company. Her staff is professional and goes above and beyond what would be required to make any patient feel welcomed and well taken care of. I cannot recommend Dr. Werner-Crohn highly enough!
Dr. Mindy has been tremendously helpful to our son first, and then to me, as I became a patient as well. Yes, she is expensive, but there are few things that are worth more than getting the best advice you can from an expert in the mental health field who is truly brilliant in so many ways. After seeing other psychiatrists, and getting a variety of diagnoses and mediocre advice, Dr. Mindy was able to very quickly help our son by seeing what his issues were and getting him on the proper medication which has actually helped him to feel better and function better in school and in general. She cares about her patients, listens to them, and advises them not only on mental health but also has given us advice about other areas such as when and where to get tutoring help and deciding when he is ready for independence like staying home alone and going to summer camp. She has even given us referrals regarding concerns about his nutrition and growth. If you are trying to navigate any mental health issues and getting overwhelmed by a lot of questionable advice, I highly recommend you go to see Dr. Mindy!
Dr Mindy Warner Crohn is the most magnificent, spectacular, caring psychiatrist I have ever had the pleasure to work with. 10 years ago I was diagnosed bipolar. I will now be 63 this Saturday. It's been a 10 years of up-and-down of different medications and therapy. She never gave up. She was always my cheerleader. She is brilliant. She now practices up in Oakland, but I have worked with her for the last 7 years or so,since Covid via Zoom. I could have my dates askew; but the important thing is I am doing well and I owe it all to her. In addition, she set me up with a wonderful therapist Dr. Tracy Rosberg. Together they have really helped turn my life around. God bless them both.
I am a client of Shira Crohn's and l can't recommend her enough! She is a thoughtful, compassionate and highly skilled practitioner. I have benefitted enormously from her guidance and care. If you want someone who will engage you and guide you in your journey, then Shira will partner with you to do just that.
Shira is the best psychiatrist I've ever worked with. She is empathetic and kind, but not a dunce or a pushover either. We've talked about various aspects of my treatment, and she has worked with me to find the right combination that works (which we did!) She's just good people, not there to cram as many appointments in as possible, just to run off to golf or something. I couldn't recommend her more highly.
