Living with depression can make even simple daily tasks feel overwhelming. While depression is a common mental health condition, it is also highly treatable with the right combination of psychiatric expertise, medication management, therapy, and ongoing support.
At Blue Sky Psychiatry, we provide individualized medication management for depression designed to reduce symptoms, improve daily functioning, and support long-term emotional wellness. Rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach, we carefully evaluate your symptoms, medical history, treatment goals, and any previous experiences with psychiatric medications before developing a personalized care plan.
Our providers care for patients experiencing a wide range of depressive disorders, including:
As part of our commitment to evidence-based care, we may also recommend advanced diagnostic tools, including pharmacogenomic (genetic) testing, when clinically appropriate. Genetic testing can sometimes provide valuable information about how your body processes certain medications, helping guide medication selection and reducing unnecessary trial and error.
Our team also understands that successful treatment often involves more than medication alone. When appropriate and with your permission, we coordinate care with your therapist to help ensure every aspect of your treatment works together toward your long-term success.
For patients throughout Berkeley, we offer both convenient in-person appointments and secure telehealth visits throughout California, making it easier to receive consistent psychiatric care that fits your schedule.

If symptoms of depression are affecting your daily life, seeking professional help is one of the most important steps you can take. Depression is highly treatable, and early intervention often leads to better long-term outcomes.
Here’s what you can expect when beginning care with Blue Sky Psychiatry:
1. Schedule a Comprehensive Psychiatric Evaluation: Your first appointment allows us to gain a detailed understanding of your symptoms, medical history, previous treatments, and personal goals.
2. Receive an Accurate Diagnosis: Not every low mood is depression, and not every depression diagnosis is the same. Our providers carefully evaluate your symptoms to identify the condition affecting you and determine the most appropriate treatment approach.
3. Develop a Personalized Treatment Plan: If medication is recommended, we’ll explain your options, discuss expected benefits and possible side effects, and answer your questions so you feel informed and comfortable with your treatment decisions.
4. Begin Ongoing Medication Management: Medication management is an ongoing process rather than a single appointment. We monitor your progress closely, evaluate how you’re responding to treatment, and make adjustments when clinically appropriate.
5. Continue Building Long-Term Wellness: Many patients benefit from combining medication management with psychotherapy. When appropriate and with your consent, we collaborate with your therapist to provide coordinated care that supports lasting emotional health.

Dr Mindy I have known for over a decade and her continuous care and professionalism is outstanding. Many times I came to see her feeling like I am at the end of my rope and she ALWAYS has an answer of how we can make things work with a different medication, a different solution and never gives up. I owe her so much for without these medications and her confidence and care I wouldn't be able to function and I am functioning very well now. Even though she moved out of town I still see her through Telehealth as she truly is the BEST!
Dr Mindy was a life saver for my son and our family. She was so attentive and compaSsionate. I felt like she put her heart and sole into treating my son. She is so up to date on the newest medications and techniques in psychiatry. She carefully listens and gained my sons trust and ours. I have sent several other friends and family members to her and they all had the same experience. A++++
Dr. Mindy Werner-Crohn was a lifesaver. Not only is she most knowledgeable about the latest advances in psychopharmaceuticals and medical advances in psychiatry and psychology, she is also up to date on other treatments to help in a variety of situations. I found her honest, straightforward, and accessible as well as very friendly and helpful. She even went to bat for me when I had an issue with my insurance company. Her staff is professional and goes above and beyond what would be required to make any patient feel welcomed and well taken care of. I cannot recommend Dr. Werner-Crohn highly enough!
Dr. Mindy has been tremendously helpful to our son first, and then to me, as I became a patient as well. Yes, she is expensive, but there are few things that are worth more than getting the best advice you can from an expert in the mental health field who is truly brilliant in so many ways. After seeing other psychiatrists, and getting a variety of diagnoses and mediocre advice, Dr. Mindy was able to very quickly help our son by seeing what his issues were and getting him on the proper medication which has actually helped him to feel better and function better in school and in general. She cares about her patients, listens to them, and advises them not only on mental health but also has given us advice about other areas such as when and where to get tutoring help and deciding when he is ready for independence like staying home alone and going to summer camp. She has even given us referrals regarding concerns about his nutrition and growth. If you are trying to navigate any mental health issues and getting overwhelmed by a lot of questionable advice, I highly recommend you go to see Dr. Mindy!
Dr Mindy Warner Crohn is the most magnificent, spectacular, caring psychiatrist I have ever had the pleasure to work with. 10 years ago I was diagnosed bipolar. I will now be 63 this Saturday. It's been a 10 years of up-and-down of different medications and therapy. She never gave up. She was always my cheerleader. She is brilliant. She now practices up in Oakland, but I have worked with her for the last 7 years or so,since Covid via Zoom. I could have my dates askew; but the important thing is I am doing well and I owe it all to her. In addition, she set me up with a wonderful therapist Dr. Tracy Rosberg. Together they have really helped turn my life around. God bless them both.
I am a client of Shira Crohn's and l can't recommend her enough! She is a thoughtful, compassionate and highly skilled practitioner. I have benefitted enormously from her guidance and care. If you want someone who will engage you and guide you in your journey, then Shira will partner with you to do just that.
Shira is the best psychiatrist I've ever worked with. She is empathetic and kind, but not a dunce or a pushover either. We've talked about various aspects of my treatment, and she has worked with me to find the right combination that works (which we did!) She's just good people, not there to cram as many appointments in as possible, just to run off to golf or something. I couldn't recommend her more highly.
Medication management for depression is an ongoing psychiatric service that involves evaluating your symptoms, prescribing medication when appropriate, monitoring your progress, managing side effects, and adjusting treatment over time. Rather than simply writing a prescription, your provider works closely with you to ensure your medication continues to support your mental health goals safely and effectively.
Antidepressant medications help regulate certain brain chemicals involved in mood, emotional regulation, sleep, energy, and concentration. Different medications work in different ways, and the most appropriate option depends on your symptoms, medical history, previous treatment experiences, and other individual factors.
Although every patient responds differently, many antidepressants begin showing improvement within several weeks. Some symptoms, such as sleep or appetite changes, may improve sooner, while mood, motivation, and energy often take longer.
Not necessarily. The length of treatment varies depending on factors such as your diagnosis, symptom severity, treatment history, and risk of future depressive episodes. Some individuals benefit from medication for a shorter period, while others may benefit from longer-term treatment to maintain emotional stability.
If your current medication isn't providing adequate relief or if you're experiencing bothersome side effects, we can perform a comprehensive evaluation to determine whether adjustments may be appropriate.
Appointment frequency depends on your stage of treatment and how you're responding to medication. Patients beginning a new medication or adjusting an existing prescription may be seen more frequently, while those whose symptoms are stable often transition to routine follow-up visits scheduled at appropriate intervals.
Yes. For many individuals, combining medication management with psychotherapy provides the greatest opportunity for lasting improvement. With your consent, Blue Sky Psychiatry can coordinate with your therapist to provide collaborative, comprehensive care.
Yes. Blue Sky Psychiatry offers both in-person appointments in Berkeley and secure telehealth visits for eligible patients throughout California. Telehealth allows many patients to receive ongoing psychiatric medication management from the comfort of their home while maintaining the same commitment to personalized, evidence-based care.
Common side effects of antidepressants vary depending on the specific medication prescribed, and not everyone experiences them. Possible side effects may include nausea, headaches, changes in sleep, dry mouth, changes in appetite, mild gastrointestinal symptoms, sexual side effects, and temporary increases or decreases in energy.
