Depression affects millions of people every year, yet many continue to struggle without receiving the care they need. While therapy can be an essential part of treatment, medication management may also play a significant role for individuals experiencing moderate to severe depression or symptoms that interfere with work, school, relationships, and everyday life.
Medication management involves much more than simply prescribing antidepressants. At Blue Sky Psychiatry, we focus on accurate diagnosis, careful medication selection, ongoing monitoring, and personalized adjustments based on how your symptoms respond over time.
Depression can present in many different ways. Some patients experience constant sadness or hopelessness, while others primarily struggle with fatigue, irritability, poor concentration, anxiety, or loss of motivation. Because symptoms vary significantly from person to person, treatment should be equally individualized.
Our medication management services are designed to provide continuous support rather than one-time prescriptions. We regularly evaluate symptom improvement, monitor side effects, adjust dosages when appropriate, and ensure your treatment continues moving in the right direction.
Many patients also benefit from combining psychiatric medication management with psychotherapy. Our team provides both services, allowing treatment to address not only biological symptoms but also emotional, behavioral, and interpersonal challenges that contribute to depression.
We also use advanced diagnostic tools when clinically appropriate, including genetic testing and computer-based assessments, helping us make more informed treatment decisions and tailor care to your individual needs.

If you’ve been living with persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, fatigue, or a loss of interest in the things you once enjoyed, it’s important to know that effective treatment is available. Depression is a medical condition that can affect your thoughts, emotions, physical health, relationships, and ability to function at work or school, but you don’t have to manage it alone.
Taking the first step toward psychiatric care can feel intimidating, especially if you’ve never spoken with a mental health professional before. At Blue Sky Psychiatry, we strive to make the process as comfortable, supportive, and collaborative as possible.
1. Recognize The Signs: Depression can look different from one person to another. Some people experience overwhelming sadness, while others notice physical exhaustion, irritability, difficulty concentrating, or changes in sleep and appetite. Symptoms may develop gradually or appear after a stressful life event, but they should never be ignored if they persist or interfere with daily life. You may benefit from a psychiatric evaluation if you experience:
2. Schedule A Comprehensive Psychiatric Evaluation: The first appointment is designed to understand you, not just your symptoms. During your evaluation, we’ll discuss:
This thorough evaluation helps ensure an accurate diagnosis and allows us to develop a treatment plan that reflects your individual needs.
3. Discuss Whether Medication Is Right For You: Medication is not the right solution for everyone, and we never take a one-size-fits-all approach. If medication is recommended, we’ll explain:
We encourage questions and believe patients should fully understand their treatment options before making decisions.
4. Attend Regular Follow-Up Appointments: Medication management is an ongoing process. Follow-up visits allow us to monitor your progress, evaluate symptom improvement, assess side effects, and adjust your treatment when necessary. These appointments are an essential part of achieving the best possible outcome and ensuring your care continues to reflect your changing needs.
5. Consider Therapy Alongside Medication: Many individuals benefit from combining medication management with psychotherapy. Medication can help reduce the biological symptoms of depression, while therapy can help you develop coping strategies, improve emotional resilience, strengthen relationships, and address underlying life challenges.
6. Choose The Care Option That Fits Your Needs: Patients in Pasadena can receive treatment through secure telehealth appointments anywhere in California or schedule in-person visits at our Los Angeles office. This flexibility allows you to receive high-quality psychiatric care in a way that works best for your schedule and preferences.

Dr Mindy I have known for over a decade and her continuous care and professionalism is outstanding. Many times I came to see her feeling like I am at the end of my rope and she ALWAYS has an answer of how we can make things work with a different medication, a different solution and never gives up. I owe her so much for without these medications and her confidence and care I wouldn't be able to function and I am functioning very well now. Even though she moved out of town I still see her through Telehealth as she truly is the BEST!
Dr Mindy was a life saver for my son and our family. She was so attentive and compaSsionate. I felt like she put her heart and sole into treating my son. She is so up to date on the newest medications and techniques in psychiatry. She carefully listens and gained my sons trust and ours. I have sent several other friends and family members to her and they all had the same experience. A++++
Dr. Mindy Werner-Crohn was a lifesaver. Not only is she most knowledgeable about the latest advances in psychopharmaceuticals and medical advances in psychiatry and psychology, she is also up to date on other treatments to help in a variety of situations. I found her honest, straightforward, and accessible as well as very friendly and helpful. She even went to bat for me when I had an issue with my insurance company. Her staff is professional and goes above and beyond what would be required to make any patient feel welcomed and well taken care of. I cannot recommend Dr. Werner-Crohn highly enough!
Dr. Mindy has been tremendously helpful to our son first, and then to me, as I became a patient as well. Yes, she is expensive, but there are few things that are worth more than getting the best advice you can from an expert in the mental health field who is truly brilliant in so many ways. After seeing other psychiatrists, and getting a variety of diagnoses and mediocre advice, Dr. Mindy was able to very quickly help our son by seeing what his issues were and getting him on the proper medication which has actually helped him to feel better and function better in school and in general. She cares about her patients, listens to them, and advises them not only on mental health but also has given us advice about other areas such as when and where to get tutoring help and deciding when he is ready for independence like staying home alone and going to summer camp. She has even given us referrals regarding concerns about his nutrition and growth. If you are trying to navigate any mental health issues and getting overwhelmed by a lot of questionable advice, I highly recommend you go to see Dr. Mindy!
Dr Mindy Warner Crohn is the most magnificent, spectacular, caring psychiatrist I have ever had the pleasure to work with. 10 years ago I was diagnosed bipolar. I will now be 63 this Saturday. It's been a 10 years of up-and-down of different medications and therapy. She never gave up. She was always my cheerleader. She is brilliant. She now practices up in Oakland, but I have worked with her for the last 7 years or so,since Covid via Zoom. I could have my dates askew; but the important thing is I am doing well and I owe it all to her. In addition, she set me up with a wonderful therapist Dr. Tracy Rosberg. Together they have really helped turn my life around. God bless them both.
I am a client of Shira Crohn's and l can't recommend her enough! She is a thoughtful, compassionate and highly skilled practitioner. I have benefitted enormously from her guidance and care. If you want someone who will engage you and guide you in your journey, then Shira will partner with you to do just that.
Shira is the best psychiatrist I've ever worked with. She is empathetic and kind, but not a dunce or a pushover either. We've talked about various aspects of my treatment, and she has worked with me to find the right combination that works (which we did!) She's just good people, not there to cram as many appointments in as possible, just to run off to golf or something. I couldn't recommend her more highly.
Medication management is an ongoing psychiatric service that includes evaluating your symptoms, prescribing medication when appropriate, monitoring your progress, managing side effects, and adjusting treatment over time. The goal is to help reduce symptoms while supporting your overall mental health and daily functioning.
Not everyone with depression requires medication. A comprehensive psychiatric evaluation helps determine whether medication, therapy, or a combination of treatments is most appropriate based on your symptoms, diagnosis, medical history, and treatment goals.
Not necessarily. The length of treatment varies from person to person depending on the type of depression, symptom severity, treatment response, and history of previous depressive episodes. Your provider will regularly review your progress and discuss any future medication changes with you.
Many antidepressants begin producing noticeable improvement within several weeks, although full benefits may take longer. During this period, regular follow-up appointments help monitor your progress and determine whether any adjustments are needed.
Yes. For many patients, combining medication management with psychotherapy provides the most comprehensive approach to treating depression. Therapy can help address emotional patterns, stressors, and coping skills while medication targets biological symptoms.
If your current medication isn't providing adequate symptom relief or is causing unwanted side effects, we can perform a comprehensive evaluation and discuss alternative treatment options. Medication adjustments should always be made under the guidance of a qualified psychiatric provider.
